The University of Gloucestershire rugby league side make their debut in the Carnegie Challenge Cup this weekend when they face Scottish champions Edinburgh Eagles.
The game takes place on Sunday 24 January, kick off 3pm at Cheltenham RFC’s Prince of Wales Stadium. Admission is £3, concessions are £2.
Coached by Warriors’ prop Ken Stone, the University have won four and drawn one of their eight fixtures in the Student Rugby League Super 8 competition, playing some excellent rugby league on the way.
This match will be the Eagles’ first outing since clinching the Co-Operative Rugby League Conference Scottish division title back in August and they hope to build on last year’s success, where they became the first Scottish team in history to progress through to the 2nd round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup by beating the Royal Air Force in Wolverhampton in a thrilling 18 – 16 encounter.
UGRL are coming towards the end of their season having beaten Birmingham University twice, Northumbria University and Hull University away and they will be ready for the challenge.
